Installing APK Files on Android

In this guide, you’ll learn how to choose the correct APK file for your Android device.

1. Check Your Android Version

Current AmneziaVPN APK files are available for Android 9 and later.

The app version for Android 7 and 8 is temporarily unavailable.

To find your Android version:

  1. Open your device's "Settings".
  2. Go to the "About phone" (or "About tablet") section.
  3. Look for the Android version field — it will show the installed version of your operating system.

2. Determine Your Processor Architecture

APK files are released for different processor architectures:

  • arm64-v8a — most modern Android devices.
  • armeabi-v7a — older 32-bit Android devices.
  • x86 — older Android devices and emulators with 32-bit x86 processors.
  • x86_64 — Android devices and emulators with 64-bit x86 processors.

The processor architecture cannot usually be checked directly in Android settings. If you are not sure which file to use, look up your device model and check its technical specifications.

3. Install the APK

  1. Download the APK file that matches your Android version and processor architecture.
  2. Enable installation from unknown sources:
    • Go to "Settings" → "Security" → Enable the "Unknown sources" option.
    • On newer Android versions, you must grant permission for a specific app (e.g., your browser or file manager).
  3. Open the APK file and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

4. What to Do If the APK Does Not Install?

  • Make sure your device uses Android 9 or later.
  • Make sure the APK file matches your processor architecture.
  • If you are using Android 7 or 8, the current app version will not install while the Android 7 and 8 version is temporarily unavailable.
