How to Choose an Amnezia Premium Location
Overview
A VPN location is the region your VPN server is in.
Amnezia Premium offers dozens of locations. You can choose a nearby server or pick a location for a specific task. Whichever you choose, the VPN encrypts traffic between your device and the server to help protect your data.
Your internet provider, network routing, and internet restrictions can all affect how well your VPN works. These conditions can change, so a location that works well today may not work as well tomorrow.
Everyday Browsing, Messaging, and Calls
Start with locations closest to you. Connect and see how well your usual websites and apps work.
Distance can affect ping, or how long it takes to get a response from a server. The farther away the server is, the more likely you are to notice a delay.
If websites are slow to load, videos keep buffering, or calls lag, try a few other locations.
Use nPerf to compare speeds with and without the VPN.
Connect to the VPN location you want to test and run a speed test. Then disconnect and run another test, manually selecting the same test server. For a fair comparison, use a test server outside the country you're in, in the same region as your VPN server.
Choosing a Location for a Specific Task
YouTube and Other Google Services
Google services may work better in some locations than others. If YouTube or another Google service isn't working properly, try a location in Europe or the United States. Start with the Netherlands, Germany, USA New York, or USA Los Angeles.

AI Services
Gemini should work with any Amnezia Premium location except Russia. We recommend starting with a location in Europe, the United States, or Canada.

Russian Websites and Apps
You should be able to access Russian websites and apps through any Amnezia Premium location except Switzerland [P2P], wherever you are.
Torrents
To download or seed torrents, connect to Switzerland [P2P]. This is the only location that supports torrent trackers and torrent traffic.
Game Servers and P2P Apps
Switzerland [P2P] supports UPnP, which automatically forwards ports for incoming connections. This can help other players connect to a server you're hosting, such as a Minecraft server. To use UPnP, you'll need server software or a separate tool that supports it.
Bypassing Website Allowlists
If you can only access websites on an allowlist, try Greenland [WL]. This location is designed to bypass those restrictions.
Using a VPN on Your Router
These steps apply to routers that support AmneziaWG 3.1.
- Generate a configuration file for the location you want to use and import it into AmneziaVPN.
- Connect using the imported configuration and check that the connection stays stable for more than five minutes.
- Once you've confirmed that the connection is stable, disconnect from the VPN in AmneziaVPN and import the same configuration file into your router.
- Connect to the VPN on your router and check that the connection stays stable for more than five minutes.
If the connection fails or drops soon after connecting in the app or on the router, revoke the configuration file and generate a new one for a different location. Test it in the app first, then on the router.

If a Service Shows the Wrong Country
After you connect to the VPN, some services may show a country or region that doesn't match the location you chose.
Turn off split tunneling and refresh the page. If the problem persists, the service may be using inaccurate location data for the VPN server's IP address. This doesn't mean your VPN location has changed.
Check the location of your VPN IP address on IPinfo.
All Amnezia Premium servers are physically located in the regions listed in the location selector.
If a Location Is Missing
Some locations may be temporarily unavailable in the app or Personal Dashboard due to maintenance or internet restrictions.
If you can't find the location you want, try connecting to another one.
